Alice Jones, a resident of Gaston, Indiana was going through her daily routine that morning. She entered her barn and was met with a surprise. In the barn, in a corner were two tiny kittens. She was bewildered as she did not have a pregnant cat.
As she went closer to inspect, she realised that the kittens were very small, weighing less than usual new born kittens. They had yet to open their eyes. Another thing she noticed about the kittens was that they had black spots on their fur. This was weird as domestic cats do not have such an appearance. She slowly realised that these kittens were not the regular domestic kittens. They could be wild cats or those exotic cats. An animal lover, she realised that these kittens needed some immediate attention as they were too fragile. She immediately took the kittens to the Animal Rescue Fund (ARF).
There, the experts had a look at the kittens and confirmed that these kittens were indeed an exotic species and so, they transferred the kittens to Indiana’s Exotic Feline Rescue Center (EFRC). Here, further examination was done. It was concluded that though the kittens were not of a tiger or a bobcat, they were still exotic, probably that of a Bengal or a Savannah.
The exact species could not be determined. The kittens were born preterm and hence were very weak and had very low body weight. One of the kittens could not survive even after a lot of care was taken. The other kitten continues to be in the incubator and is being bottle fed. It is hoped that the kitten will soon become healthy. Once he has grown, the species can be easily identified. The question as to how the kittens came to be in the barn is something that still has not been answered.
Due to exotic nature of the species, it comes as a surprise as breeding these kittens can be quite expensive and these kittens are then sold in the exotic market for quite a sum. Though it is a trend to keep these exotic animals as pets, it does have its downside as these cats are not used to a domestic life and their wild ways causes quite a problem for the owners.
A lot of farm and ranch owners have faced this situation where they have come across abandoned young animals on their property. If anyone does come across such a situation, wait for some time to see if the babies are actually abandoned or the mother has just gone away for food foraging.

Wait for at least 6-8 hours before you call the local animal rescue center. Do not wait too long as the babies should not go too long without food.
