After hitting the donkey, the driver escaped and carried on with his miserable little life. But the poor animal struggled with life threatening injuries. This happened on a country road near the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, and no one saw the car driver.
The driver never thought to stop and call someone to rescue the poor animal and the donkey was left to die on the street. Good thing some people found him and called for help. The donkey was named Guerreirinho, which on Brazilian means “little warrior”.
This story is a good example of how lovely animals are; this special bond between a donkey and a little puppy. This donkey had a terrible life, but look at him now; he is the luckiest donkey on earth, simply because he is having a special little puppy for a friend.
Stefanie Rodrigues and Zenith Gurge have dedicated their lives to help many animals in the area, and they wanted to do whatever it took to save the baby donkey. After alerting local officials they were told that he would very likely be euthanized if the donkey ends up under their control.
So they took the donkey to Stefanie’s makeshift home for pets in distress. They called a vet to determine how bad the poor donkey’s injuries. The hit and run left the donkey with 3 fractures to his legs, so he has to avoid walking for a while and he needs rest in order to heal.
But he wouldn’t be doing it alone, because he had a little white puppy that Stefanie had found as a stray and taken in to keep him company. The cute puppy likes to cuddle with the donkey, watching over him and giving him with so much love in his time of need. Guerreirinho has found a friend for the first time in his life.
It seems that animals definitely feel compassion for each other and know who needs their love the most by their instinct.
The rescuers of this donkey tried their best to collect the money to cover the cost of the surgery. The publicity has also helped to raise money needed for Guerreirinho’s operation and if he gets lucky, to be his legs again.
Rodriguez and Gurgel received until now many donations to help fund the surgeries, but they’re still a long way away from covering all what is needed for “little warrior”.
