Are Dragons Real? 10 Real Dragon Animals You Won’t Believe Exist!

Gray Petaltail (Tachopteryx thoreyi)

A very large, uncommon dragonfly of our early summer woods – I bet this is a face you don’t see every day (portrait below). I had only found one of these amazing giants before this season, and now have found as many as three on a visit. They tend to be very camouflaged, perching vertically high on tree trunks and casting intriguing shadows. I discovered they’re also very docile – letting me put the lens right in their faces. I have many more shots and will post another series down the road.
